Deviation Actions
Update: Thanks for all of the great feedback! It looks like our next contest is going to be option 3, the Action Challenge. Option 2 also got a lot of interest (and it happens to be my favorite ) so we will likely use that for a future contest. That'll give me time to think it through more, and to start collecting character sheets/layouts.
So, what kind of action would you guys prefer? I'd like it to be something general enough to be inclusive to most character types (bipedal, quadrupedal, etc.), so we may just start with something simple like a jump, yawn, walk or run cycle. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
Also, as a side note, I was thinking of combining Options 1 and 4 into a revolving group activity. Once every two months or so the "prompt" will change, and (if there is enough participation) the prompt-related entries will be voted on, and the highest rated will be featured on the group's front page. Let me know if this is something you'd be interested in!
Thanks, guys! I should have the contest up at the beginning of next week

Hey everyone!
It's high time we start up another contest! The main point of this, of course, would be to give back to the community and inspire new animation and improvement for any member who wishes to participate, though of course there may be a prize or two for the winners
I would like to ideally start this up next week, but I'd like to hear from all of you first! What kind of contest would you like to see? Is anyone even interested in participating? I've compiled a layout of possible themes and guidelines below, so please, let me know what you think!
Of course, all kinds of animation are welcome! CGI, 2D, stop-motion, paper cut-outs, pixel animation, etc.!
THEME:
Arguably the most important part of any contest! Here are the possible theme's I've been able to brainstorm, please feel free to suggest alternatives in the comments. If we get enough diversion of interests, we'll put it to a vote!
1) Sound Byte interpretation: Much like the competitions held at www.11secondclub.com/ this would involve animating your personal interpretation of a given sound byte. The sound byte would be the same for everyone, but other than that, anything goes. The downside of this is that, well, the 11 second club does this every month, haha. We could possibly differentiate by using a shorter sound clip, or giving a longer time for participants to work.
2) Character Sheet Challenge: This would involve animating an existing official character chosen by the group, using provided character sheets such as these:
sta.sh/0c7ozcvnhz
sta.sh/0uwt4u2me2x
sta.sh/0tzdkby8qhp
We would pick a character with a simple enough design to be appropriate for all skill levels, and you would be able to animate the character doing basically anything. The downside to this is that, of course, we are never going to be able to find a character that everybody likes. We would ideally put it to a vote to satisfy as many people as possible, and I would hope that if you don't like the character, you could still take it as a challenge
3) Action Challenge: This would involve animating an action chosen by the group, no character restrictions. Could be anything from a yawn, to an attack, to a walk cycle.
4) Prompt Challenge: This one is probably the least restrictive. A prompt will be chosen by the group, and you can animate basically anything you want that fits with the prompt. The prompt could be a snippet of a scenario, a sentence out of a story, a line of descriptive text, etc.
JUDGING:
The top three winners would probably be decided by popular vote. If there are enough entries, we'll have an additional "honorable mentions" section, judged and critiqued by the group mods.
PRIZES:
Winners will be featured on the group's front page, and I am also willing to donate a few subscriptions for the winners to start with. Open to suggestions for additional prizes, and of course open to member donations for prizes (things like art, points, etc.)

Thoughts on Eclipse
As most of you are probably aware, Deviantart is planning on switching to Eclipse in early May and permanently removing the old site layout. As someone who uses a computer that can sometimes freeze, crash, or otherwise panic when using certain websites, this is somewhat concerning to me, especially as I have used the current layout for over 8 years. I do not like the Eclipse layout, and will always immediately turn it off if I somehow accidentally turn it on.
While it seems now like there might not be anything to do about it, there is a group of people on DA who have a plan that might convince Deviantart to keep the old layout. If you aren't

Notice on SWF (Flash) and Deviantart Film Content
Currently I am having computer technical issues wherein certain content will fail to load on my laptop and will therefore take longer for me to review. Apologies in advance for anyone whos submission(s) are affected by this.
I highly recommend anyone affected by this to use gif (animated) preview images/thumbnails when possible as it allows me to review more content without worrying about technical issues. (You can still usually keep the same file for the primary deviation content)
Notice on Mature Content
Though Mature Content is allowed to be submitted to the group, please note that fewer admins will be reviewing it and therefore it will likely take longer to accept. We apologise for any inconvenience.
